Wedding venue SEO: how to show up on Google and Google Maps
Before a couple ever fills out your inquiry form, they search. "Wedding venues near me." "Barn wedding venue" plus a town name. "Small wedding venue in the Poconos." If your venue isn't in those results, you aren't on their list, no matter how good your photos are.
SEO (search engine optimization) is how you earn a spot in those results without paying for every click. For a wedding venue, most of it comes down to two places: your Google Business Profile, which powers the map results, and your website. Here's what matters in each, in the order I'd fix it.
How Google decides which venues to show
Google says local results are ranked on three things: relevance (how well your profile matches what someone searched), distance (how far you are from the person searching, or from the place they named) and prominence (how well known your business is, including reviews and links from other websites). You can't pay for a better local ranking. You earn it. (Google Business Profile Help)
You can't move your venue closer to every couple, so distance is mostly out of your hands. Relevance and prominence are where the work pays off.
1. Finish your Google Business Profile
For most venues this is the single biggest lever, because it's what shows up in the map pack when couples search on their phones.
- Verify it. An unverified profile is far less likely to show up.
- Pick the right primary category. Choose the category that describes what you are, then add secondary categories for anything else you genuinely offer.
- Fill in every field. Hours, service area or address, a real description, attributes, and the link to your website. Complete, accurate profiles are more likely to appear in local results.
- Add photos and video every month. Real weddings, the ceremony site, the reception room set and empty, the grounds in every season. Fresh activity tells couples (and Google) you're open and booking.
2. Make reviews a habit, not an event
Reviews feed prominence, and they're often the first thing a couple reads. Ask every couple, every time, a few days after the wedding while they're still glowing. Send a direct link so it takes them ten seconds.
Then reply to every review, good or bad. A short, specific thank-you shows future couples how you treat people. A calm, helpful reply to a bad review often does more for you than the review does harm.
3. Build a page for each thing couples search
A single "Weddings" page can't rank for everything. Couples search for specific things, so give each one its own page:
- Ceremonies and receptions
- Micro weddings and elopements
- Rehearsal dinners and welcome parties
- Lodging, if guests can stay on site
- Pricing and packages
- Your location and the towns couples travel from
Use the words couples actually type. Put your town and region in page titles and headings, written the way a person would say it. "Barn wedding venue in the Poconos" beats "Our Event Spaces."
4. Publish every real wedding
A short post for each wedding, with photos, the season, the guest count and the vendors who worked it, does three jobs. It gives Google fresh pages about weddings at your venue. It shows couples what their day could look like. And vendors often share or link to features of their work, which builds the links that feed prominence.
5. Put your price where couples can find it
Couples search "[your venue] cost" and "[your venue] pricing." If the answer isn't on your site, they find it on a directory, or assume you're out of reach. A pricing page with starting prices, what's included, and ideally a cost calculator answers the search and filters out couples who were never going to book.
6. Fix the technical basics
- Fast on phones. Most couples browse on mobile. Compress big photos and don't autoplay heavy video at the top of the page.
- Descriptive titles and descriptions. Each page's title should say what it is and where, in about 60 characters or less so it isn't cut off.
- Image names and alt text. "ceremony-site-fall-wedding.jpg" with alt text that describes the photo, not "IMG_4471.jpg."
- Same name, phone and address everywhere. Your website, Google profile, Facebook, Instagram and any directories should match exactly.
- A sitemap and Google Search Console. Submit your sitemap so Google finds new pages quickly, and watch which searches bring couples in.
How long SEO takes
SEO is slower than ads. A finished profile and steady reviews can start moving map results within weeks, while new pages usually take a few months to settle in. That's why it works best alongside Facebook and Instagram ads: ads bring couples in now, and search keeps bringing them in for years.
And none of it matters if inquiries sit unanswered. Pair search with fast follow-up so the couples you earn actually tour.
