How to book more weekday and off-season weddings at your venue

By James Howard, owner of Chelsea Sun Inn2 min read

Your Saturdays in peak season probably sell themselves. The money most venues leave on the table is everywhere else: Fridays, Sundays, weekdays and the slower months. Filling even a few of those dates can change your year.

Every open date is inventory you can't get back. A Thursday in March costs you almost as much to keep open as a Saturday in October, but it earns nothing if it sits empty. The good news is that there are plenty of couples who would happily get married on those dates. They just need the right offer and to hear about it.

Know who wants these dates

Weekday and off-season couples aren't a lesser version of your Saturday couples. Common groups include:

  • Couples planning smaller, more intimate weddings.
  • Couples focused on budget who would rather spend on the experience than the date.
  • Second marriages and vow renewals.
  • Couples with flexible schedules or guests who are traveling in anyway.
  • Couples who simply love a winter or early-spring look.

Write your offers and ads for these couples specifically, not as a discount version of your main package.

Build packages for these dates

A separate weekday or micro-wedding package is easier to market than "Saturday pricing, minus a bit." Keep it simple: a set guest count, a shorter list of inclusions, and a clear all-in price. Simple packages are easier to advertise and easier for couples to say yes to.

Price with intention

Lower pricing on off-peak dates is normal, but avoid making your main product look cheap. Lead with what's special about these dates, like a more relaxed pace, the whole property to yourselves, or a cozy winter setup, and let the lower price be a bonus rather than the headline.

Make the most of the seasons

Off-season dates have their own appeal. Lean into it with photos from real winter or early-spring weddings, seasonal touches like fire pits, candlelight or a hot-cocoa bar, and messaging that makes the season feel like a choice, not a compromise.

Advertise them on their own

Off-peak dates rarely fill from your general marketing because couples assume they can't afford you or don't think to ask. Run separate Facebook and Instagram ads for weekday and off-season packages, with their own photos, headline and price. Point them to a page or form that talks only about that offer.

Use short-notice dates

Open dates in the next few months are an opportunity. Couples with short engagements often have trouble finding a venue. A simple "recently opened dates" list on your site, shared in your ads and follow-up, can fill dates that would otherwise go empty.

Follow up fast

Budget-conscious couples shop around carefully. The venue that answers quickly, gives a clear price and makes touring easy usually wins. The same follow-up habits that work for peak dates matter even more here.
